Moving to a new Lifesaving Rankings: the road to v1
By Jason
We're rebuilding Lifesaving Rankings from the ground up. While we bring over all the content from the old site, the new platform already has features the old one never had.
Over the past months we've been working on a complete rebuild of Lifesaving Rankings. The old site, a single-page React app, served the lifesaving community well for years. But it was getting harder to maintain and to extend. The site you're looking at now is its successor, built on Next.js with a new database behind it.
Where we are now
We're on our way to version 1.0. Until then, this site is where the migration happens. Our main job right now is backfilling content from the old site: competitions, results, athletes, clubs and records are being moved over step by step and checked along the way.
That means you may still run into gaps. A competition might be missing, an athlete's history might be incomplete, or the records section might not be finished yet. That's expected while the migration runs, and the data gets more complete with every update.
Already new on this site
While moving the old content over, we've also added a lot the old site didn't have:
- A new homepage showing recently completed competitions and news at a glance.
- Redesigned athletes, clubs and countries pages with search, filters and a youth / open / masters category filter.
- Better search that ignores accents, matches every word and suggests "Did you mean?" results that take you straight to the right athlete, club or competition.
- A club timeline on athlete profiles showing which clubs an athlete has competed for over the years.
- A world map on the countries page (still in beta).
- A stats page covering demographics, the most active clubs, popular events and more.
- A public changelog, so you can always see what we've shipped and what's coming next.
What's next
Next up are a full port of the records page and a brand-new rankings page, starting with pool events. After that comes an overhaul of the competition pages. You can follow our progress on the changelog.
Help us out
Something missing, or a result that looks wrong? Let us know. Feedback from athletes, coaches and clubs helps us make v1 as complete and accurate as possible.
Thanks for your patience while we build the next version of Lifesaving Rankings.
